A survey by the Times Higher magazine has revealed Southampton’s applications to the Biotechnological and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have a 38 per cent success rate – higher than any other university in the study.
The average success rate for similar institutions making applications to the BBSRC is 28 per cent. During the 2010-11 financial year, Southampton made 24 applications; nine received awards. In all, the university received £2,789,000 in grant funding from the BBSRC.
Looking specifically at applications from Biological Science, 13 applications were made and four were funded – a success rate of 31 per cent.
