Challenges in Pharmaceutical R&D Seminar

The discovery and development of novel pharmaceutical agents is a complex, time consuming and expensive process involving a broad range of scientific disciplines. Like any investigation of a new field it is burdened with uncertainties, outcomes are not guaranteed, and hence it is highly attritional. An overview of the components involved in the discovery and development of medicines will be presented, accompanied by examples. Current bottlenecks and unmet needs and efforts to address them will also be described. Some emerging trends and thoughts on future developments will also be presented.
