Event details
Professor Timothy A. Cross, as part of the British Biophysical Society International Lecture Tour, will present his research on the M2 Proton Channel of Influenza A.
A comparison of 8 structures of M2 deposited in the PDB from solution NMR in detergent micelles, x-ray crystallography with M2 in an octylglucoside and polyethylene glycol environment, as well as solid state NMR of oriented samples in liquid crystalline lipid bilayers. A detailed mechanism for the shuttling of protons across the viral membrane will be described based on the structural, biochemical and physiological data. In addition recent spectra of M2 in E. coli membranes will be shown and prospects for using such spectra in structural characterization and in structural validation will be discussed.
