Event details
Pathogenic bacteria are becoming an increasing burden as the ability of established antibiotics to act against them becomes blunted. Approaches designed to investigate such bacteria place a high demand on animal use and there is a real desire to drive the development of model systems that allow researchers to unpick pathological mechanism and treatments against this.
Matthew Wand from our neighbours in the Health Protection Agency in Salisbury will be visiting and give a seminar on the work he is involved in. He will describe experiments in which bacterial infection of Galleria mellonella and the accompanying innate immunity they express are providing important insight into these problems.
