Ana Manyseva is an MRes Advanced Biological Sciences student within the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I graduated from the University of Bath in 2020 with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry.

My final year research project focused on the role of retrieval protein complexes in insulin-stimulated GLUT4 trafficking and disease.

Research interests

My current research project entails the investigation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing Parkin-mediated mitophagy. This research area is important because defects in mitophagy pathways have been linked to various neurodegenerative diseases.

Why I chose MRes Advanced Biological Science

I chose the MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences because I thoroughly enjoyed my laboratory investigations at Bath. This course will enable me to develop my skills, while exploring my research interests in greater depth and offering me a stepping stone to a future in academia or in industry.

Aims for the future

I aim to continue working in a research and laboratory environment, specifically in a pharmaceutical company. In the future, I will consider completing a PhD and developing my knowledge further.
