David Fisher is a Postgraduate Research Student within Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

2017-2020: BSc Biology, University of Southampton, UK

Research interests

My research interests include molecular and evolutionary plant biology, particularly in relation to understanding the factors that can influence important agronomic traits including stress tolerance, resource efficiency and nutritional composition. Previously I have worked on de novo genome assemblies for underutilised plants, and used comparative genomics to identify genes which could be linked to local adaptations in legumes.

My current research is based at NIAB EMR, investigating the impact of genetic variability and pre/postharvest environments on the nutritional quality of strawberry, in the context of addressing nutritional vulnerabilities in the UK’s food system.

Research project: Environmental and intra/interspecific approaches to nutrient security – Fruit for the UK’s food security

Supervisors:

Dr Eleftheria Stavridou (NIAB EMR)
Prof Guy Poppy
Dr Jenny Baverstock

Funding Agency: South Coast Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership/BBSRC

Research group
