During the 4th year of her Masters degree, Emily worked on the development of a behavioural assay that can be utilised to explore the neuronal and genetic basis of social interactions in C. elegans. This established Emily’s general interest in nematology and the use of C. elegans as a model organism for the study of social behaviours.

Research interests

My current research interests focus on better understanding the neuropharmacology of plant parasitic nematodes and the mode of action of nematicides.

My PhD research project involves using core techniques in cell biology and biochemistry to elucidate the distinct mode of action of a novel nematicide, fluensulfone, on plant parasitic nematodes (PPNs). PPNs cause extensive crop damage worldwide and with feeding the world an increasing challenge of the 21st century, ways to effectively control PPNs are very much in demand.
