Mr James A Edwards is Postgraduate Research Student researching the Detection of Modified Cytosine Residues in DNA within Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Academic Qualifications

2013-2017: PhD Biochemistry. University of Southampton, UK.
2010-2013: BSc (Hons) Biochemistry. University of Southampton, UK.
Honours dissertation: Characterisation of active site Uracil DNA Glycosylase mutations

Research interests

My research involves the detection of 5-methylcytosine using an enzymatic approach. Other interests involve the interaction of proteins, oligonucleotides and other small molecules with DNA, epigenetics and nanotechnology.

My research project focuses on the generation mutants of this DNA repair enzyme, which have altered recognition properties, which can be used to detect modified cytosine residues as a biotechnological tool.

Supervisor: Prof. Keith Fox
PhD research: Mutants of Uracil DNA Glycosylase for Detecting Modified Cytosine
Funding: Mayflower Studentship from the University of Southampton

Research project(s)

Modifying Uracil DNA Glycosylase

We are generating mutants of this DNA repair enzyme, which have altered recognition properties, and are using these as tools in biotechnological applications.

Membership to the Biochemical Society.
