“There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance” – Socrates

Before returning to academia, Liam worked for a company in the medical device industry with a particular interest in the research and development of new technologies in advanced wound care to help manage biofilms.

2020-Present: PhD in Biological Sciences. University of Southampton, UK.

2015-2016: MSc Biochemistry. University of Manchester, UK.

2012-2015: BSc Biochemistry. University of Waikato, NZ.

Research interests

I am striving to become a specialist in the area of biofilm research.

My PhD focusses on the development of a model system to investigate the role of biofilm communities within microbiologically-influenced corrosion (MIC) and their control using industrial biocides.

During my Masters project I participated in research studying a novel gene, DAP3, thought to be associated with Perrault Syndrome. Additionally, I researched the thioredoxin system and the effects on ER homeostasis.

Research project: Microbiologically-influenced corrosion (MIC): Development of a model system to investigate the role of biofilm communities within MIC and their control using industrial biocides.
