Matt is a PhD Student within Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Matt completed his undergraduate degree in bioengineering at the University of Sheffield. His final-year research project quantified a relationship between neurite morphology and the physical stiffness of custom-fabricated substrates. He went on to study for a research masters at Cardiff University, where he explored the potential for neural stem cells to promote regeneration in the central nervous system. His project centred on inducing primary oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) to differentiate and functionally myelinate the axons of primary neural stem cell (NSC)-derived neurons under a series of different culture conditions.Matt is a PhD Student within Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Academic Qualifications:

2015 – 2016 MRes Biosciences, Cardiff University, UK.
2011 – 2014 BEng Hons Bioengineering, University of Sheffield, UK.

Research interests

I am interested in exploring laboratory methods that have the potential to regenerate the nervous system following traumatic injury. My current project investigates the use of exosomes as integrin delivery vehicles, which have the potential to transfer integrins to certain neuronal cell compartments within which they may not normally localise. Ultimately, the project aims to determine if integrin delivery via exosomes can enhance neurite outgrowth.
