Research interests

Research interests: Besides my main PhD project I work on plant metabolomics. It is a highly efficient tool that if used together with proteomics and transcriptomics can reveal novel insights into the mechanisms mediating the response to cell wall damages (CWD) and maintenance of cell wall integrity. The aim of the research is to characterise changes in cell wall and carbohydrate metabolism after CWD is caused by isoxaben. Time course experiments with Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings grown in media +/- sucrose and mock- and isoxaben-treated will be performed, with the samples being analysed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The data obtained will be analysed using a combination of locally available sample libraries, literature mining and statistical analysis tools. This project provides novel insights into the metabolic effects of cellulose biosynthesis inhibition, and the function of glucose in Arabidopsis seedling metabolism.

PhD Research: WallNet - Investigating the role of PME activity modulation in regulating root development in Arabidopsis.
Supervisors: Dr Alan Marchant
Funding: The European Cross-border Cooperation Programme INTERREG IV France (Channel) - England "Trans Channel Wallnet" with the collaboration of the University of Rouen and the University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens. The Gerald Kerkut Charitable Trust.
