Research project: Protein misfolding and the neuroprotective role of molecular chaperones

Currently Active:
Yes

Molecular chaperones such as heat shock proteins (HSPs) regulate protein folding, misfolding, protein degradation and signalling pathways involved in neuronal death and survival.

As little is known about the role of HSPs in the CNS we are studying HSP functions under basal conditions and conditions of protein misfolding stress. This work is being performed in collaboration with the group of Vincent O’Connor and Amrit Mudher at School of Biological Sciences.
