Research interests

My research concerns the structure, function and applications of nucleic acids. Specifically, this has included the formation of higher order DNA structures, such as those generated from two, three and four DNA strands, as well as those generated by the looping of DNA by restriction enzymes. I am also interested in the targeting of these complexes by small molecules, polyamides and other molecules.

Research projects

Modifying nucleic acid nanostructures by triplex formation (BBSRC). This research is focused on exploiting the construction of unorthodox DNA structures to the field of DNA nanotechnology (bionanotechnology), with the aim of bridging the gap between engineering and the life science interface.

We are exploiting the formation of DNA triplexes as a means for generating new DNA nanostructures.

DNA sequence recognition by triple helix formation

One means of achieving precise DNA sequence recognition over several base pairs involves the formation of intermolecular DNA triple helices.
