Dr Halina Mikolajek is Research Fellow in X-ray Crystallography and NMR within Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Career History

2009-present: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in X-ray Crystallography and NMR. University of Southampton, UK.
2008-2009: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in X-ray Crystallography. University College London, UK.

Academic Qualifications

2008: PhD in X-ray Crystallography. University of Southampton, UK.
2004: BSc in Biochemistry with Physiology. University of Southampton, UK.

Research interests

My research interests revolve around protein structure and ligand interactions. To understand the function and structure of specific proteins, I combine three different techniques: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), X-ray crystallography and Isothermal titration Calorimetry (ITC). These studies are providing us with an insight into how these proteins interact, are regulated and work.

Research project(s)

Structural basis of the elongation factor 2 kinase (EF2K) activation by Calcium/Calmodulin

Eukaryotic elongation factor 2 kinase (eEF2K) is a calcium/calmodulin (Ca2+/CaM)-dependent protein kinase, which phosphorylates and inactivates the translation elongation factor eEF2, thereby slowing down the rate of translation elongation.
