Southampton offers so many opportunities for biological science students. You can focus your degree according to what you’re interested in, whether it’s the molecular side of zoology or the ecology and conservation side as I did.

I’ve always known I wanted to work with endangered animals in conservation. I’ve got an internship at Chester Zoo based in the rhino department for a year, there are only 500 rhinos left in the world so it’s very important work. I also volunteer at a local vets as I’m interested in veterinary nursing.

One of the highlights of my degree was the Spanish field trip, a great way for us all to get to know each other over ten days in the sunshine. We carried out our own individual research project, then there was a final group project which we presented to the others and that was good experience for later on in our studies. At Graduation I was presented with a gold medal for achieving an overall average of 75 per cent in my marks throughout my degree.
