I chose Southampton as compared to other universities, the biological sciences building, and facilities seemed very modern and impressive. Students were very satisfied with the course and I liked how I had the opportunity to choose my own modules so I could personalise my degree to my interests.

Before getting here I was most anxious about meeting the new people in my halls on my first day. I was also concerned about how I would adjust to the different learning and teaching styles compared to college. However, when you turn up at university everyone is in the same position, especially in your halls as everyone wants to make a good first impression. The welcome team did a good job at ensuring the moving-in process ran smoothly and was well organised.

What is it like studying here?

The course has allowed me to explore my interests within Biochemistry as I’ve been able to choose the modules which interest me both in the lectures and in the practical lab sessions. There is also the opportunity to study other modules ranging across a wide variety of subjects.

The lecturers are knowledgeable and always happy to help when needed. I now feel more confident in my academic ability. Regular lab sessions have given me practical skills that will carry over beyond my degree.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

In my 3rd year I have been offered the opportunity to take part in a year in industry. This will enhance my practical skills and give me experience of working in a professional laboratory setting.

What is the city of Southampton like to live in?

The nightlife in Southampton is always very lively, and there are plenty of places to go. The free bus pass for halls residents makes it easy to travel anywhere you may want to go. There are multiple supermarkets within walking distance of the major halls complexes and West Quay has a huge selection of shops and restaurants.

What one word sums up how you feel about your experiences so far at Southampton?

Memorable
