Choosing Southampton was an easy option for me, I remember coming to an Open Day and just being drawn in by the atmosphere of not only the university but the city.

Before coming here I was very anxious about being in an environment I was not used to, being far from home, it felt unnerving. However adjusting to Southampton was far easier than I expected, and this was due to the people I met on my first day.

I decided to take a Biomedical Sciences degree due to it not being concrete, it is a degree that delves into an ever-changing form of knowledge. Our knowledge on specific aspects of science is always being challenged by new discoveries and that was what mainly attracted me to this degree.

What is it like studying here?

Studying in Southampton is an amazing experience, all my lectures are engaging, and the lecturers make sure all the aspects of the modules are understood by students. I enjoy the practical classes that are included in my course, they give you first-hand experience on how research labs operate in the working world.

I’ve also had the chance to take modules outside of Biochemistry. This happened in 2nd year for me, I am currently doing a module in Developmental Psychology, which is not even close to any topics covered in my degree.

My time at Southampton has helped me become more of an independent person in terms of both my personal and academic life.

What is the city of Southampton like to live in?

Living in a city like Southampton was a completely different experience for me as I was used to bigger cities. However, for a small city, it has so much to offer: from the bustling night life to quiet dinners with friends.
