{"id":915,"date":"2022-02-09T11:15:29","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T11:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/ueb-blog\/?p=915"},"modified":"2022-02-09T09:10:07","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T09:10:07","slug":"ueb-blog-08-02-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/ueb-blog\/2022\/02\/09\/ueb-blog-08-02-22\/","title":{"rendered":"UEB Blog 08.02.22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Author: Shaun Williams, Executive Director, Engagement and Advancement<\/p>\n<p>A shorter than usual UEB meeting this week, due to a number of other meetings taking place, so a relatively brief Blog this week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-917 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2022\/02\/UEB-Blog-08.02.22.fw_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2022\/02\/UEB-Blog-08.02.22.fw_.png 590w, https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2022\/02\/UEB-Blog-08.02.22.fw_-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Operating in <strong>Gold Command<\/strong> mode, UEB discussed several operational and campus issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/coronavirus\/campus-life.page\"><strong>COVID case numbers<\/strong><\/a> in our university community and our local communities continue to be monitored closely, with case numbers seeing some increases in recent days.<\/li>\n<li>There was an update on the <strong>return to campus<\/strong> by our staff and students, as teaching resumes after the January assessments, and with the lifting of the Government\u2019s work from home guidance. Our approach continues to be a sensible and phased one, recognising we are still in a period where some measures are still required in our working environment, and also balancing the needs of individual roles and the needs of the institution with individual preferences. The importance of a regular presence on campus for our staff was underlined, the frequency of that presence to be determined by the nature of the role and in ongoing discussion with line managers. A further update on our longer-term <strong>Future Ways of Working<\/strong> project, informed by a number of pilots, is expected next month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>International travel<\/strong> continues to be an area governed by complex and often changeable country-specific rules. Our specific COVID advice about travel has reverted to our travel policy and the travel toolkit, with approval made at local level. As the COVID implications on travel start to recede, we need to be mindful too of the sustainability impact of our international and UK travel, an issue we will return to ahead as we develop further our Sustainability strategic plan.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, UEB heard that our <strong>saliva testing programme<\/strong> is now included and compatible with the NHS App, where results can be recorded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting then reverted to normal <strong>UEB mode<\/strong> to discuss a number of other issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UEB warmly welcomed today\u2019s announcement of the flagship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/sussed-news\/2022\/02\/08\/the-anniversary-fellowship-scheme-launches\/\"><strong>Anniversary Fellowship Scheme<\/strong><\/a>, an exciting opportunity for exceptional early-career researchers to advance their research careers, as part of the new University Strategy and to celebrate the 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the University\u2019s Royal Charter.<\/li>\n<li>UEB noted that February is <strong>LGBT+ History Month 2022<\/strong>, in celebration of which the University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/sussed-news\/2022\/02\/07\/lgbt-history-month-raising-the-lgbt-flag-in-solidarity\/\">raised the flag at Highfield Campus<\/a> in an act of allyship and as a symbol of inclusivity.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, there was an update on developments at national level in respect of the <strong>USS Pension Scheme<\/strong>, and the regular review of the University <strong>Risk Register<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author: Shaun Williams, Executive Director, Engagement and Advancement A shorter than usual UEB meeting this week, due to a number of other meetings taking place, so a relatively brief Blog this week.
