Dr Tugra Nazli Akarsu is a Lecturer in Marketing at Southampton Business School. She holds a PhD in Business from Middlesex University London as a recipient of the Dean Excellence Scholarship. She completed her Bachelors’ with honours in Business Administration at Koc University, Istanbul. Prior joining Middlesex University, she received her master’s degree in Business Administration from Kadir Has University, Istanbul, where she worked both as a graduate research assistant and as a research fellow in a funded project examining the impact of diversifying acquisition from Turkish acquirers on shareholder wealth.
Tugra’s research interests are in the fields of sensory marketing, branding, and consumer psychology. Her research on sensory marketing focuses on the effect of sensory stimuli on consumer perceptions. Within branding and consumer psychology, she particularly examines the digital innovation of peer-to-peer platforms, their digital orientation and its influence on end-users in different market models.
Her research has been accepted for publication at the top-tier journals including Journal of Business Research, Industrial Marketing Management, European Journal of Marketing and International Journal of Hospitality Management. She has contributed chapters to edited books on various topics such as sensory marketing, reflective critics on the dual marketing & co-branding, and consumers’ perceptions on destination image. She also presented her research at various conferences belonging to reputable bodies such as Academy of Marketing, and International Place Branding Association.
Her prior experience includes working as a consultant for clients in the UK, Italy and Turkey, where she helped clients with a wide range of sales and marketing issues.
