Alexander Howard BSc Accounting and Finance
Graduated 2016
Being from Southampton, the opportunity to study at such a prestigious institution right on my doorstep was too good to pass up and having my brother here at the same time made the decision simple.
I’ve been lucky enough to be elected to Union Council to oversee democracy of the Students’ Union.
I’ve had the pleasure of presenting in front of PwC as part of the financial challenge in the Financial Accounting 2 module. I’ve also been elected as the Business School Academic President.
I’ve taken advantage of the placement preparation schemes such as the professional skills seminars. All extra-curricular activities give you skills that will prove useful after university. Being Academic President and on the committee for Union Films has helped me with my communication, team working and leadership skills. Sitting on Union Council has helped improve my persuading/negotiating and influencing skills.
In terms of networking and employment opportunities, I worked as an OPUS Champion as part of the Excel Southampton Placement Programme; this really helped improve my abilities to work self-independently and act in a professional manner. I went to the ICAEW Business Futures event in October and that allowed me to meet many chartered accountants who have gone through the process I hope to.
Southampton is a lovely place to study. There is a real community atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else. The staff are lovely people. The city of Southampton is a fantastic place to study, socialise and to enjoy.
