Southampton is one of the top universities in the world and its dynamic course offerings and rich maritime history really attracted me to study here.

I chose MSc Global Enterprise and Entrepreneurship because I want to establish and deepen my business-related knowledge, and understand the differences between how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large corporations operate.

The course helped me to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set, which may transcend to other aspects of work life in the future. I believe this MSc course complements my undergraduate degree in Engineering and enhances my career prospects in the long run.

As my university career has almost come to an end I started to look for a graduate job in the UK. I believe Britain is a good place to kick-start your career, given its important role in the global financial market. Many UK recruiters provide specific graduate training programmes, which are not readily available among their Chinese counterparts.

The University of Southampton has provided an excellent range of career planning assistance and resources. Its Career Destinations department regularly arranges sessions and workshops that are particularly oriented towards enhancing graduates’ employability. For example, the informative ‘Interview Skills Sessions’ present some of the main rationales behind the common use of competency questions and the ‘Assessment Centre Experience’ workshop helped me to mentally prepare for my own assessment day. This practise truly put me at ease during my actual interview.

The yearly careers fair held at Highfield campus helped me to catch a glimpse of what is available on the graduate job market, and it also makes a face-to-face dialogue with prospective employers possible.
