Dr Chrystalla Kapetaniou is Lecturer in Economics of Innovation and Public Policy at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton.

Chrystalla previously worked as a Principal Researcher at Nesta, where she developed and led several research projects on the Future of Work. These include FutureFit, a major training and research project supported by; Digital Frontrunners, a future of work network of over 300 senior policymakers and practitioners supported by Google; and a series of research projects about preparing employers and employees for the transition to a net-zero economy.

Prior to Nesta, Chrystalla held research, teaching and managerial positions at several universities in the UK and Cyprus. She led and participated in national and international research projects, and delivered undergraduate, postgraduate and adult education courses. Her previous professional experience includes various management consultancy projects, for commercial and not-for-profit organizations.

Chrystalla's research interests revolve around the future of work, digital transformation, open innovation, innovation systems, automation, and green innovation. She uses mixed-method and multi-method approaches to her work to generate insights for business, policy-makers and education providers. Her current projects investigate how to prepare workforce, firms, and industries for the transition to a digital and net-zero economy. She has published academic papers in journals such as Small Business Economics and Technological Forecasting & Social Change, and reports on the future of work, skills, and the green economy. Evidence from her research has been used by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Green New Deal's Reset inquiry. 

Chrystalla was awarded a PhD in Management from the University of Kent for her thesis on Innovation Management and Policy, and a Master’s degree in Operational Research from the London School of Economics.
