Dr Gloria Kutscher
Lecturer in Organisation Studies

I’m a Lecturer in Organisation Studies at Southampton Business School. I conduct research on how organisations and individual actors make sense of and respond to different forms of hardship in ways that lead to personal growth and positive social change. My research addresses hardship in two ways. First, I look at how organisations working to alleviate societal challenges like refugee crises and poverty create and uphold shared values. Second, I look at how individuals’ own setback experiences inform their career and entrepreneurial growth. By focussing how these actors notice, make meaning of, and respond to hardship, my research contributes to organisational theories of sensemaking, values and emotions, and institutional change.
Before I joined Southampton Business School, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Management Studies at Aalto University School of Business. Prior to coming to Aalto, I completed my PhD in Management at WU Vienna in 2018, and was a faculty member at WU’s Department of Management.
