Peter and University of Southampton colleague Julie Hickman facilitate collaboration between academia and business in the area of analytics and Operational Research(OR).

Peter joined the University of Southampton in 2015 after a career in OR and analytics, both in the public and private sectors.

He began in the 1970’s at the National Coal Board’s Operations Research Executive (ORE) and then worked at the Dept of Health for a number of years before joining, first Hoskyns and then Capgemini to pursue a consulting career.

Peter brings an understanding of what business wants from a prospective analyst and recruited many students from Southampton over the years.

Together with Julie Hickman he is tasked with, among other things, sourcing opportunities for collaboration, primarily by securing approximately 70 bespoke projects annually for CORMSIS MSc students.  A unique student / sponsor matching process maximises the potential impact and success of these projects, some leading to student recruitment, further research and development, increased revenues/reduced costs or consulting.

UK and International CORMSIS MSc projects cover a wide range of organisations including corporates, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), government departments, health service, charity and third sector.

A lifelong member of the OR Society Peter is passionate about promoting better decision making through an evidence-based approach.
