Dr Serdal Temel, Researcher of innovation and enterprise research group at the University of Southampton, Business School.

Dr Temel earned his PhD from Dokuz Eylul University, Department of Economics. He has been working as a researcher at Ege University Science and Technology Center since 2000 and is responsible for university-industry cooperation, technology transfer, R&D, and innovation projects. Dr Temel worked as a manager of the Aegean Innovation Relay Centre (IRC-Ege), which was selected the best TTO within the EU by the European Commission in 2008. Currently he is Manager of Ege University Technology Transfer Office and Manager of Enterprise Europe Network-Izmir. Dr. TEMEL has taken active role over 32 national and EU projects and has more than 37 articles and book chapters on innovation, R&D, university-industry collaboration and entrepreneurship. Dr Temel has published in the international journals such as Regional Studies, International Journal of Innovation Management, The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, International Journal of Innovation Science and Journal of Technology Management& Innovation.

Currently he is the Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department at Ege University and Visiting Associate Professor at Southampton University Business School. Dr Temel is also recipient of prestigious Newton Advanced Fellowship.

Research interests

Innovation management, university industry collaboration, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial universities, IPR, SMEs.

  1. The Sharing Economy and its Opportunities for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Inclusive Growth in Turkey, Newton/Katip Celebi Fund (Dr. Serdal Temel Turkish PI, Dr. Vadim Grinevich UK PI) (£149,972), under evaluation.
  2. The impact of Universities on to Regional Development: New Methods and Approaches, UK-Turkey Science Year, TUBITAK (Coordinator, with Prof. Dr. David Charles, University of Lincoln) (16.600 €).
  3. Entrepreneurial Universities, Innovation and the Role of Technology Transfer offices in Emerging Economies, British Academy Newton Fund Advanced Fellowship Award, between 2015 and 2017. (Coordinator with Prof. Mine Karataş-Özkan Southampton University-UK) (71.676, 00 £).
  4. Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: the impact on local and national economic growth and international competitiveness, Newton Researchers Link Workshop Project (Coordinator, with Prof. Dr. Jonathan Levie from University of Strathclyde) Fellowship Award (30.560,00 £).
