Dr Raymond Hu is Lecturer in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Southampton Business School. He teaches and conducts research in the fields of social entrepreneurship, innovation, family business, qualitative research methods, and applied critical realism. Raymond also holds the roles of Deputy PGR Senior Tutor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Co-Programme Director of MSc International Management at the Southampton Business School.

Current research
Raymond’s research interests lie in the collective and collaborative dynamics in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial behaviour with a particular focus on social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial opportunity, social capital, and the empirical application of critical realism in entrepreneurship research. His work has been published in prestigious academic journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. He also sits on the Editorial Board of European Management Review, and acts as a reviewer for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Public Management Review, International Small Business Journal and Journal of Critical Realism. He welcomes PhD applications from highly motivated students who would like to conduct research related to his areas of expertise.

Raymond teaches various topics in entrepreneurship, small business management, and qualitative research methods. He is the module leader of MANG6550 Dissertation (DSIE).

Biography
Raymond holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship and an MSc in International Management from Loughborough University, UK. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from China University of Political Science and Law, China. Before joining Southampton, Raymond was Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Portsmouth Business School, University of Portsmouth. Prior to joining academia, he worked as a project manager for China-Africa Business Council, a non-profit organisation jointly-founded by the China Guangcai Program and the United Nations Development Programme. Raymond’s engagement with business and entrepreneurship included exploring business opportunities for Chinese and African entrepreneurs, creating entrepreneurial projects for poverty alleviation in Africa, and conducting research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in Chinese SMEs.
