I believe this opportunity to take on a real-life project as part of your degree gives students experience which is invaluable in your career

Chen Wang is now a productivity engineer at Ford’s technical centre at Duncton, after graduating in 2009 with a masters degree in management sciences at the University of Southampton. He worked at Ford for his three month summer project, which is part of the degree programme, and carried out a simulation of an engine assembly line. “It was very interesting and I enjoyed putting the theory I learned at Southampton into practice,” says Chen. Chen studied accountancy and economics for his first degree at Southampton, but wanted to take a more applied subject at postgraduate level.
