As a consultant I feel I have differentiated myself from others by studying a DBA at University of Southampton.

What made you choose to come to study at Southampton?
The quality of the research capability, the course was of interest to me. Also, the location and the campus are appealing.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?
The opportunity to perform research and apply this research in a business context. The people I have met on the course, including my supervisors. As a 44 year-old, it is interesting to walk round a campus, nice to feel like a student again!

What opportunities have you taken up (within your degree programme and extra-curricular)? In what ways are they helping your personal development?
As I am distance learning I have appreciated the ability to use the library and check out books, then mail them back to the library. The online resources provided through sussed have been invaluable, for example I have used NVivo to code interviews. I have been working with my supervisor to present data findings at upcoming conferences.

Have you had any exposure to employer involvement or research led learning during your course? How will this help you achieve your ambition?
I have worked as a consultant for a number of years and am currently working for a bank, working on their analytics capabilities. Our vision is to improve the quality of experience for our customers. The research has helped me adopt a more methodical approach to building knowledge. I hope to apply my research, contributing both professionally and academically.

What are you enjoying most about your course?
The actionable insights as a result of researching my field of business, which is CSR. The process of researching and contributing to a professional and academic research field is satisfying.

What networking, employment and work experience opportunities have you undertaken and how have they enhanced your undergraduate experience?
As a consultant I feel I have differentiated myself from others by studying a DBA at University of Southampton. I also am interested in the universities symbiotic relationship it has with industry, in particular the field of work I am in, which is data science and analytics.

Do you have any idea of what you would like to do in the future? Have the opportunities you have taken up while at the University helped you have a clearer idea of what you might like to do?
I would like to set up a cooperative to help advance the field of CSR in Jersey. I have used my research for competitive differentiation as a consultant and am using research methodology in building an analytics capability at the bank I currently work for.
