What impressed me is the way of teaching and learning in class.

During my research of UK higher education providers, the University of Southampton stood out and suited many of my criteria compared to other UK universities. Specifically, it ranks highly among UK universities and particularly for marketing subjects, has a masters programme relevant to my career path (ie MSc Marketing Management), promises a rich college life with many societies and surrounding amenities.

The subjects and knowledge covered in my MSc Marketing Management course are well updated, practical and strategic. Built on fundamental marketing knowledge, they emphasise the industry’s hottest trends in Britain and throughout the world. What impressed me more is the way of teaching and learning in class. We were engaged in many discussions and arguments to build lessons together.

The study environment was therefore fast-paced, interactive and dynamic. Most classes required us to read materials beforehand, prepare for presentations regarding a given topic and solve unnoticed problems quickly in class. My favourite module was Strategic Marketing Decisions, in which we were assigned specific business problems and had to devise a marketing strategy/plan to solve them and develop the company/product. The knowledge and problem-solving experience I obtained from the course helped me in getting the very first role upon my study completion. Thanks to the practical and updated information covered in the course, I could answer well in the first interview round. In the last round, I completed a problem-solving case study confidently because I had undertaken this kind of challenge many times in class, and therefore successfully got the job offer.

I am now working as a Marketing Executive at Pairview Training Services located in Southampton. My responsibility is to devise and implement integrated marketing communication plans to promote the company and its training programmes. As part of my job, I also do market research to explore the market trends and customer needs, from which I advise the business about its prospective orientation in the industry and potential products/services.
