Top award for Business School postgraduate recognises his analysis of defence contracts

Published: 27 April 2015

Business School postgraduate student Tom Wilson has won an award for excellence for his summer project to analyse two helicopter repair contracts at Fleetlands in Gosport. Tom graduated with a BA in History from the University of Southampton in 2013 and stayed on to study a MSc in Business Analytics and Management Sciences (BAMS) as a way of enhancing his job prospects. His Boeing prize reflects the quality of his dissertation on his project work; Tom now works as a consultant at a leading company.

“I know my experience doing the summer project after learning the relevant skills during my masters degree helped me secure a job with RED Scientific in Hampshire,” he explains. “Before I made my decision to stay at Southampton, I looked at several similar degrees but this one offered the best career opportunities.”

The MSc BAMS programme supports students to develop a variety of methods and approaches to tackle real-life business problems, it ends with a three month project in a company or organisation in the UK or overseas. Many alumni are now in senior positions in many different professions across the world.

University Industrial Liaision Officer Dr Ian Rowley brings together talented students with companies offering challenging projects and is keen to speak to any employer who would value a fresh pair of eyes on an interesting problem or issue.
