Peer Support Conference

On Saturday 9th December, 70 delegates from 11 different institutions, attended the first South West Regional Peer Support Network Student Conference.

The conference was a chance for staff and students involved in peer support, to explore the types of schemes offered by different institutions to support transition to Higher Education and student success. The conference themes focused on sharing practice, personal development for student leaders and mentors, and connecting with others, with workshops and talks from both staff and students and keynote speaker Dr Rob Grieve, senior lecturer in physiotherapy form the University of the West of England.

Excellent feedback was received from delegates,

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all those who facilitated the day and those who gave talks and sessions. It was a really useful day and great to see other uni's take on [peer support]. “ – University of Winchester delegate.

Southampton Business School has recently developed a Peer Learning scheme, which has expanded on the previous Buddy Scheme, to provide weekly, student-led sessions throughout Semester 1. As members of the South West Regional Peer Support Network, the Business School were pleased to host the inaugural student conference and it was a great opportunity to reflect on our own scheme and exchange ideas for further developments.
