Martin Broad has been elected to Council of Chartered Association of Business Schools and Vice Chair.

Stratos Ramoglou delivered and invited research seminar at Leeds University Business School on the 26th October. The title of the seminar was “When theory is not the answer”.

Tapas Mishra has been appointed as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Finance (ABS 3*).
Prestigious committee memberships:

Simon Wolfe was invited in October 2018 to join Business Research Unit of Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (BRU-IUL), in Portugal, as a member of the International Scientific Advisory Board. The Business Research Unit is a multidisciplinary research unit whose scope spans various Business areas.

-In his capacity as President of the African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA), gave the Welcome address speech to the 8th African Accounting and Finance Association Conference, at Novotel, Dakar, Senegal 5th September, 2018.
-Presented a paper entitled ‘Owner manager demographics and environmental management practices in Ghana: the moderating role of education’ at the African Accounting and Finance Association conference, Novotel, Dakar, Senegal, 4-7th September 2018.
-Presented a paper entitled ‘The Use of single and multiple theories in social and environmental disclosure research: Survey evidence from UK listed firms greenhouse gas emissions’ at the School of Management Seminar Series, University of Swansea on 9 October 2018.

Dr Alasdair Marshall (PI), Prof. Christophe Mues (CI). Research Grant: THE RISK REPOSITORY PROJECT. Amount: £26,357.00
Details: a research project funded by Munich Re., involving the appointment of two Research Assistants for a period of
nine weeks to analyse SEC 10-K corporate risk reports and design a risk categorisation matrix for their risk contents.

Dr Yu (Jack) Gong has been successful in securing grants from the University’s SMMI Collaboration Stimulus Fund of £10,000, which is supported by the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) and allocated to the University by HEFCE. The project title is "The current status and future direction of the sustainability of China's seaports", the co-PIs are Professor Robert Nicholls and Professor Ian Williams from Engineering and the Environment, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

Ramesh Vahidi was invited to be on the Panel of ‘Wellbeing Conference’ hold by Major Projects Association (MPA) and deliver a provocative talk on 17th October. CEOs, project managers and representatives of some relevant authorities from the MPA members (i.e., organisations engaged in the delivery and the development of major projects, programmes and portfolios) attended the event at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London. Following the event,

Ramesh Vahidi, Mina Beigi and Melika Shirmohammadi’s research on “The work-life balance from the viewpoint of experienced project managers” (supported by the School Research Grant), has been promoted on the ‘Wellbeing’ section of the MPA’s Knowledge Hub.

Additions & Corrections to September’s Newsletter:

On the 29th September David Cross presented a paper at the ‘11th People and Organizations Conference, Wharton School, Philadelphia, United States.’ This was the paper Commitment without the organisation: Clients, collaborators and professional bodies as substitutes. Written with Juani Swart and Nicholas Kinnie.

Michael Veliziotis was appointed by the Greek Minister of Labour to serve as a member of the Committee of Independent Experts that will advise the Minister on the determination of the statutory level of the minimum wage for the Greek economy. Membership in the Committee lasts for three years.
