It has been another challenging year for the accounting profession, which again, has been in the headlines on a regular basis. 'Making Accounting Great Again', is an annual event run in conjunction with ICAEW Southern and the University of Southampton which explores the careers and perspectives of influential Chartered Accountants.
This year Richard Cartwright will interview notable FCA, Mark Hoban - current Chairman of Flood Re and a former Minister who served as Financial Secretary to the Treasury during the Coalition Government.
Mark will reflect on his career and experiences to date to explore the economic and political challenges facing business today.

Speaker information
Mark Hoban . Mark Hoban chairs the International Regulatory Strategy Group (the IRSG), which is a cross-sectoral financial services body co-sponsored by the City of London Corporation and TheCityUK. The IRSG is currently drawing up recommendations for the post-Brexit regulatory landscape. Mark chairs Flood Re and is on the board of the London Stock Exchange plc. He is a senior adviser to PwC and a member of their Advisory Board. He is a Commissioner of the Jersey Financial Services Commission. He is a Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University. Between 2001 and 2015, he was the Member of Parliament for Fareham. He was a minister in the Treasury between 2010 and 2012 and at the Department for Work and Pensions between 2012 and 2013.
Richard Cartwright , Chartered Accountant, Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting, a member of the University Senate and of the University Council. Richard specialises in teaching Financial Accounting and Audit and is interested in the role of extra and co-curricular activities in supporting the learning and professional development of students, graduates and professionals. He has pioneered the use of ICAEW educational films at universities and regularly presents sessions using them at conferences in the U.K. and abroad. Off campus, Richard is Chair of the ICAEW's Assessment Committee, a member of the ICAEW's Council and Learning and Professional Development Board. He has also been working for the Department for Education in the development of their forthcoming T Level in Accounting. In 2018 Richard was included in the Shaw Trust Power List, a listing of the 100 most influential disabled people in the U.K.
