I am enjoying how challenging it is. I have had some work experience in marketing, but I feel I am learning new content every week.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I decided to come to Southampton University because I know the area well but I also knew my course is one of the best in the UK.

What is it like studying here?

I was fortunate to start the course in the September 2020 cohort whilst Covid restrictions were eased and I had weekly seminars. Being on campus is great and the University has made it extremely safe. I am doing a lot of online learning but the online resources are great – I have access to textbooks via E-book so I still have full access of library books. I am looking forward to the summer term and seeing fellow coursemates on campus as well as visiting campus facilities more – like the Hartley Library (not forgetting the student pub – The Stag!).

What are you enjoying most about your course?

I am enjoying how challenging it is. I have had some work experience in marketing, but I feel I am learning new content every week. At Masters level, assignments are more demanding but I have felt lecturers have been understanding and always made time so I can talk to each of my tutors 1-2-1. I am also enjoying making new friends and networking.

Have you taken advance of any extra opportunities outside of your course?

I had the responsibility of being one of 4 Digi champs for the Business school. This involved helping to manage the prospective student Facebook group. I enjoyed working closely with the University and fellow colleagues and I feel this has been valuable experience for my CV.

What have been your Southampton highlights/best experiences?

One highlight so far has been making friends on my course – we regularly talk each week although online it is great to get to know everyone. I will look forwards to going to the pub with them in the summer term.

How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?

It has broadened my academic understanding of marketing as well as presenting a few challenges. My undergraduate was in English Literature (BA) so shifting to a MSC has been completely different! I feel this has forced me outside of my comfort zone – for example learning statistics! I feel these skills will broaden my capability especially when applying for jobs.

What is Southampton city like to live in?

Living in Southampton has its perks! It is well connected with a main trainline from Southampton to London as well as having Portsmouth on your doorstep. Southampton WestQuay is great for shopping as well as Gunwharf keys in Portsmouth. If you like shopping it is great!

I personally love the New Forest nearby as well as having local beaches.

What are your ambitions?

I would love to continue working in marketing for a firm/business I feel passionate about. I would like to one day reach management level which I am sure my MSC will help me achieve this.
