I studied my Undergraduate degree here and I knew that the Digital Marketing course and staff were renowned for being some of the best in the field.

I chose Southampton because I studied my Undergraduate degree here and I knew that the Digital Marketing course and staff were renowned for being some of the best in the field.

My highlight so far has to be meeting people from all over the world and getting experience from my course, my work with the Union and Digichamps before I enter the world of work.

This year I have been MSc Digital Marketing Course Representative. This has helped me to effectively manage student’s problems and issues of a sensitive nature and support those who have come to me for help.

I was also Brand Manager for the Union’s Laughter Lounge. This has broadened my skills in time and people management, ensuring that the comedians feel welcome, and that the audience are enjoying themselves, whilst marketing the event throughout the week on social media and face to face marketing. This has developed my ability to deal with set-backs and staying calm and patient under pressure.

In Semester 1 I took a coding course which gave me the skills to develop my own website. This has been something I had wanted to do for years, and gave me a sense of fulfilment in being able to work with advanced technological terms and programmes.

The extra-curricular activities have provided me with skills that can be applied in the work place, such as working in team members from around the world, managing time and people while staying calm in order to deliver on goals effectively. Digichamps has also given me the opportunity to get involved with projects that require the same of me that a future employer might. Which is invaluable experience.

What I enjoy most is the variety of modules and how you can see how the modules apply to real life, allowing you to easily see how you could transfer these skills to the work place.

I studied my Undergraduate degree here so deciding to stay here for my Masters highlights how much I love the University and feel comfortable here. There are a variety of locations to work, and the library services offer a wealth of knowledge in helping you with various projects and assignments.

My advice to current students is to take every opportunity that crosses your path. For Masters students, you are often only here for a year, which for me has already gone far too quickly. I was nervous and apprehensive about applying for certain roles and projects that I didn’t think I would get, but all you can do is just get involved with us much as you can and make the most of it, don’t let being scared or nervous get in the way!
