You will automatically feel like home because everyone was really nice, warm and open to help. The lecturers and staffs are really appreciative and patient to international students if we have difficulty on say, language or just understanding the culture.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

First because University of Southampton offered a program that I am really passionate about, Digital Marketing. It is a perfect combination of practical and theoretical of digital application and Marketing Management. Moreover University of Southampton is in the top 1% of universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2018)*. With the reputation and the availability of the course that is now on trend. University of Southampton is my number 1 choice.

What were your first impressions of the University of Southampton?

My first impression with University of Southampton right away when I arrived in the airport. I met staff that picked us up from airport to our residences and they were really friendly and helpful. I remembered when I met them I thought to myself if everyone is this welcome I am definitely going to enjoy my time in Southampton.

What do you enjoy the most about living in Southampton?

I enjoy too many things about living in Southampton. First definitely my friends and staffs that I met and have helped me a lot. But there is also one thing that is I am going to enjoy the most, the pastries in SUSU shop. Oh those pastries are amazing. They helped me go through so many early morning and late lunch. I am going to miss those pastries when I go back home.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

Definitely Hartley Library especially at the corner of level 3 where it is quiet. Though it is kind of cold during winter but it is so quiet that it got me focus on studying and finishing my assignments.

Did you receive a scholarship for your studies?

Yes I received a scholarship. It is a Chevening scholarship that is sponsored by UK Foreign office. It is very important for me as it got me to study in Southampton but most importantly I was very honoured being given the scholarship as it is a very prestigious scholarship for potential leaders. With the scholarship not only I met inspiring people from my country but also other countries that studies in Southampton.

What has been your proudest accomplishment while you were in Southampton?

Definitely being able to make friends with people from different countries, across courses and also being able to go through the whole studying with pretty good results. With my age and my long work experiences, going back to school is not easy. That is why being able to go through the study and still able to have fun with people that mostly younger than me was a great achievement.

Would you recommend the University of Southampton to students from your home country?

Definitely. I love the city, it is very warm and easy to go around if you like travelling. Most of all, I will recommend University of Southampton because it is very diverse you can meet different people from different countries with different background without feeling left out. You will automatically feel like home because everyone was really nice, warm and open to help. Moreover, the lecturers and staffs are really appreciative and patient to international students if we have difficulty on say, language or just understanding the culture.

What will you do with your degree after you have finished your studies?

I am going to go back to work in digital field definitely. The degree will definitely help me to achieve higher career role in my job. I will still work on brand management but focus more on digital plan and implementation, while on the other hand, will continue my other passion that I left back home, teaching. I am going to work in a company and teach in the university and bring back the knowledge that I learned to my students.

Do you have any stories about your time in Southampton or a happy memory you want to share?

Too many but I definitely would like to share my gratitude to my other Indonesians in Southampton and definitely my fellow classmates in digital marketing 2016/2017 especially my team that we called ourselves distinction team and a special fellow Chevener from Montenegro. I know it is cheesy but the name helped us to always want to achieve a distinction mark. Last but not least, definitely I would like to share that along with the study work in Southampton, the University of Southampton managed to open the opportunity for me to find love.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I really enjoy my time in Southampton and the time I spent with my friends at university and outside of the university. I would like to thank my lecturers, staff in international office especially Lizzie, and my friends. Without all of you, my time will not be this fun. I hope in the future I will make the university and my scholarship proud.
