Wanying Zhou is a PhD student conducting interdisciplinary research within Electronics and Computer Science and the Business School at Southampton.
They are conducting research with Electronics and Computer Science in the Agents, Interactions and Complexity group, and with Southampton Business School in The Centre for Digital Finance.
Wanying's PhD research title is 'Preventing Bias when Pricing Insurance Derivatives using Data Driven Machine Learning Techniques'. They are exploring the relationship between group fairness and individual fairness in machine learning pricing algorithms.
This research will also look at developing algorithms in order to comply with specific requirements in equality. The main focus will be on insurance premium calculations, but many of the results will be transferable to other domains.
