Careers and Employability

At Southampton Business School, we believe in providing our students with skills, experience and opportunities to help in acquiring a future career.

There are numerous ways we support our students in gaining industry-relevant experience and preparing for their future career, such as:

Work placements and Internships

We have our own dedicated Placements Office who can help you secure work experience throughout your studies. They also offer advice on writing CVs and preparing for interviews. Hear from our students who are currently on placement in their latest blog posts.

How can a work placement influence your future?

BSc Marketing student, Ellis Metcalf, undertook a year-long work placement as part of her course. Watch the video to learn more about her placement as Events and Sports Marketing Assistant at BMW UK.

Careers and Employability Service

Students at the Business School can also take advantage of the wider university Careers service, which offers excellent enterprise opportunities working on live business projects, for example through the Excel Internship Scheme. Take advantage of 1:1 advice and guidance, from career mentoring to helping you start your own business.

Student enterprise and innovation

There are plenty of exciting student societies which offer opportunities to advance your skills in innovation and entrepreneurship, including Fish on Toast, Women in Business, and ECS Entrepreneurs to name a few. You'll get to meet students from different disciplines and evolve your creative ideas.

You'll also be exposed to a number of external opportunities in business and entrepreneurship. Events this academic year include the Dynamo Challenge, the South coast's largest inter-university enterprise competition, and the Catalyst Challenge at Southampton Science Park.
