UoS Internships

Students working

Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise provides specialist support to organisations seeking to recruit students for internships projects throughout the year. UoS Internships are available to a wide range of employers including SMEs, large companies and public/third sector organisations.

Since the offering began in 2009, we have supported over 2,400 internships which have enabled our partner organisations to benefit from additional resource and aid with project goals and business development.

Our students have been placed in a variety of roles such as marketing & media, events, fundraising, campaigns & promotion, software development, legal & compliance and research & analysis.

How could it benefit you?

Appointing a student from the University of Southampton would give your organisation a number of benefits including:

Flavia has been a wonderful intern fitting in straight away, taking on responsibility with little support and being incredibly capable

Who can apply?

We are seeking internships across all sectors, working with organisations of various sizes.  Whether you’re a small start-up looking to hire your first intern, a third sector organisation requiring extra resource, or a seasoned graduate recruiter, we have the expertise to guide and support you through the process.

Internship Criteria

Below are the criteria for an internship to be eligible for the programme:

  •  A minimum duration of 2 weeks or 70 hours
  •  The internship needs to provide a meaningful project, giving real value to a host organisation and allowing students a focus to develop their skills
  • For a third sector internship (or an internship at the University of Southampton), the pay rate must align with Level 1B (spinal point 7) on our university pay scales. All other internships must be paid in line with National Minimum Wage legislation, though we suggest aligning with our pay scales where possible.
  •  Internships need to be based in the UK
  • All semester internships must be part-time
  • All internships must be exclusive to University of Southampton students
  • Full-time internships are the equivalent of 35 working hours per week
