Student Innovation Projects

Students presenting their recommendations

Is your organisation facing a particular commercial challenge? Student Innovation Projects enables businesses and not-for-profit organisations to present ambitious students with a commercial challenge and receive inspiring solutions to overcome it.

Students from a range of subjects and year groups will work in teams to come up with innovative solutions to your organisation's problem.

We ensure that all students are trained prior to projects commencing.

COVID-19 guidance

Projects can be completed entirely virtually but if restrictions allow and there is agreement from all project participants, there is scope for in-person activity.

We would like to thank the students again- they provided strong insights and valuable feedback in a professional and impressive manner.

Becoming a client of our Student Innovation Projects brings several benefits including:

  • Gaining a fresh approach to your organisation's issues through talented, enthusiastic students
  • Receiving insightful recommendations from the students through a final presentation and report
  • Students from a wide array of disciplines who will collectively bring a vast skillset to tackle your commercial challenge
  • Recruitment and organisation of all students organised by the University

In order to participate in our Student Innovation Projects, you will need to submit a Client Form to the Employer Engagement Team for approval. Please contact us at if you would like a Client Form.

The Client Form will state your commercial challenge and needs to be detailed, as this document will ultimately be provided to the students.

Each team of students will then have four weeks to consider the commercial challenge and propose solutions to the issue. They are then required to produce a written report and present their proposal to you and a member of Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise.

Once the project begins, your involvement will be as follows:

  • Having an initial meeting with your student team and providing continued ad hoc support to them via email, telephone and another meeting as required
  • Providing students with the necessary information they will require to complete the project
  • Attending the student presentation and final report submission, along with a representative from Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise

For more information about suitable projects, please read the Student Innovations Project Client Handbook or for examples briefs please see our Social Media StrategyCompetitor Analysis and Sustainable City Life examples alongside our Client brief template
