Have an idea that you think has potential? An innovative new product or service? Or a new way of tackling an issue that matters to you and your friends? Take the first step towards developing your idea and submit it to the Big Ideas competition!
The Student Enterprise team are pleased to announce that applications for the 2021 Big Ideas Competition are now open!
All of the team believe that everybody has a good idea. We also believe that the University of Southampton's students should be acknowledged for their novel thinking and creative talent.
This year we are giving you the chance to develop your Big Idea, along with the chance to win one of five £100 prizes, or a £500 grand prize, per faculty!
If you would like to develop your idea further, we will take you through the practical next steps to take it forward and make a difference, and all winners will become University of Southampton Big Idea Fellows.
We would love to see applications from all students (undergraduates and postgraduates) and from all subjects of study.
Please submit your idea to the faculty that owns your degree programme. Your application will be judged by the selection panel from your own faculty.
Please note: Your idea does not need to be related to your degree programme or faculty.

Please note that within the application process there is both a public and private summary (allowing applicants to be selective regarding the information that is publicly shared).
- In the application form you will need to provide:
- Name, student ID, university email address, degree title
- Name/title of Big Idea, brief summary of Big Idea (100 words), more detailed description of your Big Idea (300-500 words)
- Accompanying image (sketch, info-graphic, photo or any other visual representation of your idea)
- Any additional documentation (optional)
- Individual or team applications are welcome. If applying as a team, one of you will need to be the designated applicant. There will be a field provided in the application form for you to enter the names and email addresses of your team members - your application will be received as a team application as long as this field is completed.
