Employability Essentials Programme

Careers Workshop

Our Employability Essentials Programme consists of skills workshops that provide the opportunity to find out how you can stand out from the crowd at each stage of the recruitment process.

Our sessions:

• Are under an hour to fit between your lectures (see below for exceptions)

• Run on specific days and at set times

• Are interactive

• Include time for individual questions

Ask the Adviser - Application Support (1 hour)

These small group sessions provide you with the chance to work on your own CV/cover letter/application or personal statement with the support of an adviser. If you would like to book on, come along to our Drop-in Service where we can help you get started. Please bring a printed copy of your document.

Convincing Covering Letters (35 minutes)

This interactive workshop will give you the confidence and tools to make your covering letter stand out and convince an employer of your suitability for a role.


Exploring Work Experience, Internships and Placements (30 minutes)

This session will help you to consider the benefits of doing work experience, placements and internships, and to understand the options that are available to you.

Finding Temporary or Casual Part Time Work (30 minutes)

This short session will give you an overview of where to search for temporary, casual and part time work, how to apply and help you to gain an understanding of the skills you could gain.

First Steps in Planning Your Career (1.5 hours)

This workshop offers a practical introduction to the initial stages of planning your career, signposting useful resources to help you decide upon your next steps.

Hired! Successful Interviews (45 minutes)

Focusing on two key areas, this interactive workshop is designed to help you to identify the main types of interview questions and how to structure effective and persuasive answers.

How to Succeed in Psychometric Job Selection Tests (45 minutes)

This workshop explains what psychometric tests are, why they are used, and provides advice and tips to maximise your performance.

Surviving Assessment Centres (2.5 hours)

Join this interactive workshop to get practical experience of common assessment centre exercises. The session will specifically focus on role-play scenarios, in-tray activities, situational judgement tests and group presentation tasks.

Targeted Graduate Applications (35 minutes)

This practical workshop will help to give you best chance of success in your applications through evaluating what makes an effective application from the employer’s perspective.

Winning CVs (40 minutes)

Examine CVs from an employer’s perspective, interpret job advertisements, and apply the principles of effective CV writing to your own life experience.
