Andy Gardner - Career Consultant for Civil Engineering

Deciding what you would like to do after you graduate can sometimes seem like a daunting prospect. We work with academic staff and employers to provide a tailored service to help you explore your options and find out more about the various career paths you could take.

Each faculty has a linked Career Consultant who works closely with staff and students to provide tailored events and information.

All of our consultants and advisers are able to offer you careers information and advice through our Ask the Adviser Service and workshops. During Ask the Adviser appointments you will speak to the duty adviser. If you are then referred to a longer 45 minute guidance appointment, you can request to see your subject's Career Consultant.

Take a look below at some resources we have put together to get you started.

What could you do with your degree?

• Use the Civil Engineering - What can I do with my degree? and Transport, Planning and Energy - What can I do with my degree? downloads to help you source work experience or graduate jobs. Civil and Environmental Engineering students can also apply for the SUCCESS Scholarship Scheme. Many students studying Transport Planning also receive employer sponsorship.

• Prospects.ac.uk:

• Employability talks and events are organised by the Faculty and the careers service to give students insights into the many opportunities open to them and provide support in the application process.

• Use the FEE Student Employability Blackboard to access careers presentations, job alerts from employers targeting the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, information on competitions, bursaries and further study. The Job Search Resources folder includes a database of recent employers. Current students will receive regular update emails from Blackboard and tutors.

Students could consider joining the professional accreditation bodies of their degree programme to take full advantage of the benefits (found in 'Resources' handouts in 'Useful Downloads' below).
