Dr. Brian Moss Lecturer in Criminology and interim Admissions Tutor for 2020 within Sociology at the University of Southampton.

My research concentrates on policing

Brian Moss joined Southampton in late 2019, having previously taught at universities in England and Ireland.

Pursuing a primary research focus on policing activities, Brian’s work has featured in academic journals and public and practitioner news outlets including The Conversation and Policing Insight.

Research interests

Policing, probation, comparative criminal justice systems, regulation and exclusion from public services (e.g. schools)

Affiliate research groups

Policing Cluster SSPC, Digital Technologies Cluster- SSPC

Brian is the interim Admissions Tutor within the Department for 2020.

He has acted as a reviewer on the journal Policing and Society.

Brian is a member of the Learning the Lessons Development Panel within the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Brian teaches on modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Southampton. These cover criminal justice systems, prison and punishment, violence and sexual offending, terrorism and radicalisation, policing, and law enforcement.
