Dr Claire Salter

Claire completed a BMedSci at the University of Nottingham before graduating from Nottingham Medical School in 2009. She undertook training in paediatric medicine, before choosing to specialise in Clinical Genetics. She has an interest in the ethical issues that arise in this specialty.

In 2014 Claire spent a year as a research fellow at the Wessex Clinical Genetics Service, where she was a member of the team setting up the 100,000 genomes project. She ran the recruitment clinics and has a particular interest in understanding patients’ experiences of undergoing whole genome sequencing. Claire is now working as a specialty registrar in the West Midlands Regional Genetics Service and continues to be involved with the 100,000 genomes project. Consent for genetic testing is an area that Claire has been exploring, by looking at the use and format of consent forms used by Genetic Services throughout the UK and exploring the ways in which they will need to be adapted as genetic techniques advance.
