As part of the research engagement activity, ‘Engaging with parents of the future about the offer of genetic screening before pregnancy,’ funded by the University of Southampton’s Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu), A level students from Bitterne Park and St Anne's visited LifeLab, where the students participated in hands-on genetics experiments, discussed with CELS members, Gillian Crawford and Mirjam Plantinga, about their work and were introduced to the research of CELS on expanded pre-conception carrier screening. We are looking forward to our follow-up activity on April 17th where Gillian and Mirjam will visit the students to view their presentations and host a debate, on the ethical and societal implications of offering the pre-conception carrier screening test in healthcare.
