Dr Catarina Costa Moura – Hans Schuppe Prize 2018
Congratulations to Dr Catarina Moura on winning the Hans Schuppe Prize 2018!
There were 19 images submitted this year. Images ranged from environmental and zoological images to transmitted light, fluorescence and second-harmonic microscopy. Equipment used included high quality photographic equipment, turn-key research microscopes in our state-of-the-art facilities and home-built systems in our imaging development labs. All of the entries were of a very high quality but this year the two micrographs chosen stood out from the rest.
Hans Schuppe Prize judges said “Not only is this a beautiful image, the second harmonic microscope Catarina used is an advanced development system and as such this is a very technically challenging image to acquire. Catarina did not discuss exactly how the cartilage was engineered, but clearly making the specimen itself has required a large amount of skill and effort.”
The School of Biological Sciences Hans Schuppe Prize ceremony event will be held in the Institute for Life Sciences (Level 6 in Building 85) on Highfield Campus, University of Southampton, on the 9th November 2018 from 3pm.
