Hi, I'm Pete Yuk Ming Leung and I studied Computational modelling of chemistry within Chemistry at the University of Southampton.

Doing a master’s degree or PhD can be really helpful towards your future career.

I was first attracted to do chemistry at the University of Southampton due to the high ranking of Chemistry in the UK.

Southampton is a big city and the public transport is very convenient. There are good places for entertainments, such as West Quay (the big shopping mall), the cinema, arcade, and casino.

During my three years as an undergraduate, I was involved in intersociety football competitions, both five-a-side and 11-a-side, representing the Chemistry Society.

After I graduated in the summer of 2010, I had an offer to do a research PhD course. My motivation to carry on to do further study was the prospect of better job opportunities. I’m now five months into my PhD course and there is a big difference from being an undergraduate. I feel I am much more independent and well organised in the area of my research, which is needed to produce a reasonable amount of results in a set period of time.

Doing a master’s degree or PhD can be really helpful towards your future career. It can give you a far better advantage when you are applying for jobs and certainly the salary you going to get when first start is much more likely to be higher. The University of Southampton is certainly a great place to carry on postgraduate studies.
