The University of Southampton’s School of Chemistry is delighted to announce that it’s MChem programmes have been accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

The RSC accredits MChem degree programmes which are judged to be of a high standard both in terms of intellectual challenge and the competence that they impart to graduates. The School’s programmes have been awarded this accreditation after the formal 2010 review process, which involved the programmes being rated against the RSC criteria.

Graduates who are awarded an RSC accredited degree, and are RSC members, are automatically eligible to apply for Chartered Chemist status once they have gained several years of chemistry related work experience, which provides a clear advantage for students who embark upon the School of Chemistry’s accredited programmes.

Achieving chartered status in any profession indicates to the wider community a high level of subject specific knowledge and professional competence.

Professor Phil Gale of the School of Chemistry says: "I'm delighted that the quality of the Southampton chemistry degrees have once again been recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry. A chemistry degree from the University of Southampton is recognised worldwide as an excellent qualification that can open doors to many different careers."
