Professor Phil Gale, Head of the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, has been appointed as an Associate Editor of Chemical Society Reviews.

Phil will be the Associate Editor, Reviews, covering supramolecular, macrocyclic and coordination chemistry.

He has been a very active member of the Editorial Board since 2005, including acting as a guest editor for the recent Supramolecular Chemistry of Anionic Species themed issue. His role as Associate Editor will be effective as of 1st January 2011.

Phil says: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the exciting work in the fields of supramolecular, macrocyclic and coordination chemistry that will pass though my office in Southampton – and to continue working with the Chem Soc Reviews editorial board.”

Chemical Society Reviews is the RSC's flagship reviews journal with an impact factor of over 20. It publishes tutorial reviews that give newcomers to an area an accessible overview, in addition to longer critical reviews. A key publication for the chemistry discipline, it particularly encourages the promotion of international and multidisciplinary awareness and co-operation, to enable scientific advancement.

Professor Stephen J Hawkins, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, comments: "Becoming an Associate Editor of this esteemed journal is recognition of the standing of Professor Phil Gale and Southampton in the wider community of chemists - well done!"
